Carols for choir and audience
The East Sussex Community Choir gave a brilliant performance in the Christmas Cracker on Saturday 16 December. Lewes Town Hall was packed and the choir’s performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria was bright with incisive entries and a great sense of rhythm. The audience loved it and several of Lewes musical cognoscenti made very positive comments during the interval. The first half also featured Lewes Young Voices directed by Rachel Fryer. A very small group of young voices, but making a great start to their musical lives.
The second half included some lovely arrangements of favourite Christmas Carols sung ESCC and a lovely performance of two numbers from Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite by organist Andrew Wilson.
The Guest Star of the evening was Dame Felicity Lott who sang four songs, including Michael Head’s The little road to Bethlehem, and ended with Balulalow from Britten’s A ceremony of carols in which she was joined by our three soloists from the Vivaldi: Gloria, Shona Knight, Sara Gourlay and Corrine Hull.
Soloist Sara Gourlay is also Chair of the local branch of Dementia UK and with their support we raised a lot of money for a great charity.
