About the Choir
The East Sussex Community Choir was founded in 1988 as part of the East Sussex Music Service based at what is now East Sussex College. In 2020 the choir went independent.
We meet every Monday evening at St John sub Castro in Lewes. Our rehearsal accompanist is Andrew Wilson and we are directed by Nick Houghton ( https://nickhoughton.org.uk/ ) who leads rehearsals with skill, enthusiasm and encouragement as well as good humour!
Unlike many community choirs we sing mainly classical repertoire. We hold two to three concerts a year in Lewes Town Hall, including a Christmas one which comprises classical pieces and carols; and a main concert of more substantial choral works in the spring/summer. We are joined by fine professional soloists and orchestral players for our concerts.
Every two years we undertake a mini-tour either to other parts of the UK or abroad.
